Experiment's home is a cube, only just large enough that it cannot touch two opposing sides no matter how it stretches. There is a slight give to all of its surfaces, but the bottom-most side comes closest to being soft. Because of this Experiment despises the bottom-most side, and avoids it whenever possible. It prefers to sleep clinging to the top-most side, except when used to the point of exhaustion.

When the scientists send their agents to fetch Experiment, they do so by opening the cube's sides. Experiment is unaware of the pattern they follow to decide which side they will open first, but believes that they prefer to open the side it is furthest from. Sometimes, Experiment darts at random across the cube in hopes of confounding their decision. Several times it has managed to arrive at an opening side before the scientists' agents are properly prepared to capture Experiment. This is the closest it has ever come to freedom, and there is nothing Experiment wants as much as ten minutes to explore the greater cube in which its cube resides.

So far, Experiment's record for time in the greater cube before being captured is seventy-eight extremely hectic seconds, at the end of which three agents were fatally wounded and Experiment was so excitedly overwhelmed that it didn't sleep for nearly twenty hours—quite an accomplishment for a creature that typically spends half of each day dozing! In the end, the scientists filled its cube with soporific gas, and it woke two days later with a ferocious hangover and the taste of fresh blood lingering on its tongue.

They were very careful with Experiment for the next weeks, but excitement fades into routine and Experiment has begun to think that its next escape will be a true success.
